Q. Why is the glorious story of the transfiguration always read during the penitential season of Lent?
A. Penance is better when it wears a happy face and is inspired by the desire for God’s light and glory.  The three apostles who witnessed the glory of Jesus would later witness his fear and agony in Gethsemane.  Their memory of the day of light would sustain them in the night of darkness.
Fr. S. O’ Flynn OFM Cap
Treasure your times of light when you feel close to God, as you will be able to draw strength form memory in times of darkness.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted

Lent

In our journey through the Season of Lent we are reminded to reflect on our patters, to pray more deeply and to be generous to those in need.
The TRÓCAIRE Lenten Campaign helps us to focus on those in need in our world.   Envelopes for the Lenten Campaign are available at the back of the Church.
Every year throughout the world almost 10 million children die before their fifth birthday. The World Bank estimates that child deaths in Africa alone could grow by an additional 700,000 a year. The problem isn’t that there is not enough food to go around. The problem is lack of access to food.  Over the past 25 years global food production has grown more rapidly than global population. Yet there are still millions of children starving.
A number of Lenten suggestions for teenagers and children are available in the Church this weekend.
